an irritated rant

Why do people always make their problems someone else's? Like if a renter cannot pay their landlord, they get mad that the landlord demands the money but there is a BANK on the other end demanding a mortgage and they don't care about jack. Just own up and do what you're supposed to -- pay up and stop wanting people to bail you out all the time. Or in the case of the below conversation:
"They didn't give me enough notice to move!"

"You knew for half a year that this change was coming down the pike."

"But she said I had time!"

"You DID."

"But I CAN'T just find another apartment that easily -- I have a big dog and it's really hard to find apartments. They'd rather see me on the STREET than make sure I can get another place. And they seem doubtful that I will actually move out. They're MEAN."

"That's because you aren't showing enough proactive movement on this."
Maybe I sound unsympathetic, but why is your problem their problem? They want you out, you find another place. Okay, you can feel miffed about it but only pour a wee bit of energy into feeling wronged because you're gonna need the rest of that energy to actually solve the fucking problem.

People are annoying.

I don't know how to SAY that though without seeming like a complete dick, and so I held my tongue. I really just hate the victim "woe is me" mentality, I think it's paralyzing and allows people to make excuses for behavior they themselves dislike. If you want to change something, change it. If you can't, won't, or aren't motivated, stop bitching about it. You are only allowed to bitch about something you are actively combating.

  1. Unless I'm doing something about whatever it is that's pissing me off, I try not to bitch about it more than three times.
After that , even I think I'm just whining.
